Land consumption is a huge topic in environmental debates and also played an important role in election campaigns in 2018. We showed that residential use is the most important driver of land consumption. And that new residential areas are built especially where population growth is comparably low: on the countryside. The article contains interactive elements like time-sliders and a tool, that lets the reader compare the extent of land consumption in Bavaria over a year to his or her hometown.
